In the 1830's Adolphus Duperly of Kingston
who was a prominent photographer of the time, made a number of "photographic"
excursions around Jamaica with his Daguerreotype camera.
From these images he composed an "excursion
essay" of 24 images. He then had
lithographs made of these 24 images by Ph. Benoist, Jacottei, G. Muller and others.
The printing from these lithographs was done by Thierry Bros of Paris, France. The
size of the image in each of these 24 Lithographs is approximately 10" x 6.25".
Very few complete sets have
survived and most Jamaicans have never seen these fascinating scenes of period
Jamaica.
